How Span Length Affects the Dead End Grip
After cable diameter, span length is another important purchasing parameter.
A short-span telecom route and a long-span ADSS installation do not necessarily use the same grip structure.

Do Not Ignore Cable RTS
For project procurement, you should also provide the cable’s Rated Tensile Strength (RTS).
RTS helps define the mechanical performance required from the termination system.

Unlike the wording in the old version of this article, a typical preformed dead end is not installed by tightening the grip itself with a torque wrench.
Instead, the preformed rods are wrapped progressively around the cable according to the installation marking and manufacturer’s instructions.
A typical installation process includes:
- Confirm the grip model and cable diameter.
- Identify the installation mark on the grip.
- Position the grip around the ADSS cable.
- Wrap the helical legs evenly around the cable.
- Seat the loop around the thimble or connection fitting.
- Connect the assembly to the pole or tower hardware.
- Inspect the final installation.
